The Uzbekistan Global Agro Forum 2020 - Business Conference on Digital agriculture and innovations was held on 11-12 March 2020 in Tashkent, within the framework of the international exhibition on agriculture AgroWorld Uzbekistan. We thank the organisers for all the efforts they made in making possible for us to join the Forum remotely from Italy, considering the state of emergency related to the spread of COVID-19.
The Forum was co-organised by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan, Farmers Union of Uzbekistan, Kongress-Service Company and Agromart. It was aimed at exchanging best practices, ideas and innovations across the world to improve agricultural practices, contribute to the sustainability of farming and the modernisation of the agricultural sector.
We discussed our work in making contract farming smarter, in close connection with the other speakers in the panel on digital platforms in agriculture. We explored how we are addressing operational challenges of designing, executing and monitoring farming contracts and how trust, risk allocation, situation specific design are managed on the ground. We explained how we developed Smart Contract Farming to be blockchain enabled for strengthening traceability and ensuring commercial transactions through smart contracts.
The Forum enhanced cross-sectoral cooperation and dynamically debated the near-future of the production, processing and distribution of sustainable and agri-food products in Uzbekistan and overseas.
At Agrenta we hope to visit Uzbekistan soon in the very next future and continue our dialogue there.
